Mahler: Symphonies Nos. 1-10 (17 LP Box Set)
This 17-LP limited-edition Gustav Mahler box set brings together Berlin Philharmonic recordings of Mahler's nine completed
symphonies and the Adagio of the Tenth. The Adagio performance, under the direction of Claudio Abbado on the 100th
anniversary of Mahler's death, is one of the highlights. In addition to chief conductor Kirill Petrenko and his predecessor Sir Simon
Rattle, this edition features other outstanding Mahler interpreters closely associated with the orchestra: Gustavo Dudamel,
Bernard Haitink, Daniel Harding, Andris Nelsons and Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
In the symphonies of Mahler, the monumental stands next to the delicate, the spiritual to the profane, the tragic to the humorous, and despair to the hope of redemption. Each Mahler symphony unfolds a world of its own that captivates the listener.
The included extensive hardcover booklet contains introductions to the individual symphonies plus in-depth essays by Stephen Johnson and Barbara Vinken. The design of the high-quality box was created in collaboration with the renowned American artist Robert Longo: almost unrecognisable, the images feature photorealistic charcoal drawings of celestial bodies. Arranged into a square, the LP sleeves 1 - 16 form the image of the sun, measuring approx. 47 x 47 in. Pressed on blue vinyl, LP #17 (Symphony No. 10) stands out from the others.
